Western Carolina, the 2007 Southern Conference Women's Golf Champions, begin play in the NCAA East Regional on Thursday (May 10) with the first tee-time set for 1:20 pm at the University Club, hosted by LSU.

The Catamounts' five players were among the 108 assisgned to the East Region to practice on Wednesday in preparation for the 54-hole event.

First round action is set to commence at 8:10 am on Thursday, with the first Catamount golfer -- freshman Elin Mickelsson -- not scheduled to tee off until 1:20 pm as a part of the final group beginning play on hole number one. Western, seeded 19th out of the 21 teams in the region despite winning the conference championship, will be paired with Jackson State and Jacksonville State through the opening 18 holes.

The two Southern Conference schools joining WCU at the regional, Furman and the College of Charleston, are paired together in the first round and are slated to begin teeing off at 12:30 pm on the tenth hole on the back nine.

The Catamounts will be led by junior Malin Fryk, who led the team in scoring average this season and will be the final team golfer to tee off on Thursday. She will be joined by fellow All-Southern Conference selections, senior Bianca Melone and SoCon Freshman of the Year Desiree Karlsson. Rounding out Western's side will be junior Kandy Carland, who was the team's top finisher at the SoCon Championship, and the second Swedish rookie, Mickelsson.
