Cullowhee, N.C. - The Western Carolina women's golf team, headed for Winston-Salem, N.C., will tee off at 11:50 am Thursday, May 8, in round one of the NCAA East Regional Tournament. The tournament is being held at the Salem Glen Country Club in Clemmons, N.C., and is hosted by Wake Forest University on the par 71, 6,114-yard course.
Freshman Ashley Hovda will lead off for the Catamounts, followed by sophomore Johanna Lundberg, 2003 Southern Conference Freshman of the Year Brandy Andersen, junior Rebecca Twiner, and ending with sophomore Line Cordes who will tee off at 12:30 pm. The Cats will be paired with Georgia State and St. Francis-Pa., for the first round.
Western Carolina will be playing among a field of 21 teams at Salem Glen, including the number one team in the nation in Duke University. WCU ranks 19th among them, ahead of Georgia State and St. Francis. The Catamounts have played seven of the teams in the East Regional this season and have defeated four of them, including Furman, Coastal Carolina, St. Francis and Georgia State. Furman, which the Catamounts defeated to take the conference title, ranks 13th among the field.
