Cullowhee, N.C. - The Western Carolina women's golf team, fresh off its first ever Southern Conference Championship, is headed for the NCAA East Regional Tournament, being held Thursday through Saturday, May 8-10, at the Salem Glen Country Club in Clemmons, N.C. The three-round tournament will be hosted by Wake Forest University on the par 71, 6,114-yard course.
This is the first post-season appearance for the Lady Catamounts, who are playing at the top of their game. The team placed four of its five golfers in the top 20 at the conference championship with freshman Brandy Andersen taking home the first place trophy. Andersen was named the league's Freshman of the Year and earned All-Conference honors for her accomplishments. Joining her on the all-league squad were teammates Line Cordes and Rebecca Twiner, who placed fifth and 13th, respectively, in the championship.
Western Carolina will be playing among a field of 21 teams at Salem Glen. WCU ranks 19th among them, ahead of Georgia State and St. Francis. The Catamounts have played seven of the teams in the East Regional this season and have defeated four of them, including Furman, Coastal Carolina, St. Francis and Georgia State. Furman, which the Catamounts defeated to take the conference title, ranks 13th among the field.
