Cullowhee, N.C. - Western Carolina University women's golf coach Steve Lott announced today that Ashley Hovda has signed a National Letter of Intent to join the Lady Catamount golf team in the fall.

Hovda, a native of Springfield, Ohio, averaged 38.3 (as a 9-hole average) her senior year at Catholic Central High School. She was also the team captain for four years and a two-time high school State Championships qualifier. Hovda is the current Springfield Junior and Amateur Champion. She was named the Springfield News Sun Player of the Year and has been selected twice to the Dayton All-Area First Team.

Hovda is a member of the National Honor Society, the Drama Club and the Peer Ministry at her high school. She also volunteers at the Mercy Hospital in Springfield. She is the daughter of Ron and Gretchen Hovda of Springfield.

"We are very excited to have Ashley as the newest member of our women's golf team," said Coach Lott. "She brings a lot of fire power to our very young team. She is very solid athletically and academically."
