Cullowhee, N.C. - The Western Carolina women's golf team is headed to Louisiana this weekend to compete in the LSU-Cleveland Golf Classic, Friday through Sunday, April 4-6. The event, featuring 14 teams from around the country, is being held in Baton Rouge, La., at the University Club.
The Catamounts will face tough competition against teams such as Jacksonville State, Texas A&M, Tulane and Yale, as well as conference foe College of Charleston. WCU will start its first round at 10 am on Friday and will be paired with Mississippi State and LSU.
Western Carolina is currently in second place in the conference and ranked 61st nationally with a record of 139-63, including fall tournaments. The Lady Cats also have a national ranking of 40 in average score (307.00), according to Golfstat. WCU's freshman team of Brandy Andersen and Ashley Hovda is currently ranked 21st in the country, averaging 78.45, and the team as a whole is ranked eighth in total short game (.493 percentage of saving par when landing in a bunker or missing the green). Additionally, Western has four players ranked in the top nine in the conference, the most of any other league school.
