Cullowhee, N.C. - Senior Brandy Andersen carded an opening round 77 to lead Western Carolina at the America's Choice Mortgage Lady Jaguar Invitational, hosted by Augusta State University and held at the Forest Hills Golf Club in Augusta, Ga. The Catamounts stand in sixth place after 18 of the scheduled 36 holes, one stroke in arrears of fifth and 20 shots behind the leader.
Host Augusta State leads the team event, shooting a 302 on Monday. Notre Dame stands eight strokes back in second, shooting 310 as a team, followed by Arkansas State (314), East Tennessee State (316), and Florida International (321) rounding out the top five.
Individually, Lauren Smith of Augusta State leads after shooting a one-under, 71 in the opening round. She is trailed by Noriko Nakazaki of Notre Dame and Candace Pasechnik of Arkansas State in a two-way tie for second, each shooting 74.
For Western, Andersen, who is in eighth place, was followed by classmate Erika Danford and junior Bianca Melone who fired identical scores of 81 on the first day to stand in a tie for 28th. Sophomore Malin Fryk and senior Ashley Hovda are in the clubhouse tied for 39th with opening round scores of 83. Playing as an individual for the Catamounts, sophomore Kandy Carland is tied for 53rd.
The final round of the Lady Jaguar Invitational tees off on Tuesday morning from the Forest Hills Golf Club in Augusta, Ga.
