Cullowhee, N.C. - Junior Brandy Andersen carded a first-round 74 to lead the Western Carolina women's golf team Monday on the Par 72, 5,911-yard Oak Point Golf Course at Kiawah Island, S.C. The Lady Catamounts stand in 15th place with one and a half round remaining on Tuesday, six strokes behind the 13th-place tie between the College of Charleston and Arkansas State.

The first round on Monday was delayed one hour due to dense fog on the course. Tuesday's action is still set to begin at 8:15 AM with the teams, who played nine holes of the second round Monday afternoon by design, playing the final nine before beginning the third and final round. Behind Andersen, freshman Ashley Hovda fired a 76 (38-38) to stand tied for 27th with 11 others after 18. Rounding out the scoring for the Lady Cats was freshman Kandy Carland in a tie for 69th (81), sophomore Bianca Melone tied for 85th (84) and Lucinda Davies, tied for 91st with an 89 on the day.

Campbell and Louisville stand tied for the team lead after the first day. Both squads have three golfers among the top ten in the event. However, the individual lead is currently being held by Mayumi Kobayashi of Wisconsin, who carded a three-under, 69. She is followed by Adrienne Millican of East Carolina, one-stroke back at 70. Millican tallied a tournament-low 32 on her second nine to move into second place. A three-way tie for third rounds out the top five golfers, with Sofia Gorelik of Campbell, Meghan Little of Louisville, and Stacy Brown on Notre Dame each finishing the first day with a one-under 71.

Rounding out the top five teams were Michigan and Notre Dame tied for third at an even 300, with Coastal Carolina and East Carolina tied for fifth after shooting identical 301.

The second and third rounds begin on Tuesday at 8:15 am on Kiawah Island.
