Kiawah Island, S.C. - After the first round of the Edwin Watts / Palmetto Intercollegiate, the Western Carolina women's golf team stood in third place, three strokes behind first-round leading Campbell and just two strokes in arrears of second-place, Miami (FL). The second round, which was scheduled for Monday afternoon, was suspended around 5:30 pm due to darkness and will resume at 8:15 am on Tuesday morning and be followed by the third and final round. Individually, freshman Desiree Karlsson is tied for second with three others after shooting her second below-par round of 71 this season. Starting on the ninth hole, Karlsson played through most of the back nine at even-par until scoring a birdie on the par 3 15th to drop to one-under. After making the turn, the Ljunghusen, Sweden native was as low as three-under with four holes to play before a double-bogey on the par 4 5th and a bogey on the par 4 6th left her even. Karlsson managed to birdie her 18th hole to give her the 71, tying her career-low round shot at the Wachovia-Great Smokies Intercollegiate.

Junior Malin Fryk is three strokes back, tied for 11th, while freshman Elin Mickelsson two behind Fryk in a tie for 27th with an opening round 76. Fryk had three bogies in her first five holes on Monday and was as high as four-over par before back-to-back birdies on No. 3 and 4 dropped her back to two over, 74. Senior Bianca Melone endured an up-and-down opening round and is tied for 40th (77), while junior Kandy Carland is tied for 67th (80).

Teams will complete the second round on Tuesday morning and then complete the third and final round of the tournament on Tuesday afternoon.
