Stockbridge, Ga. - Freshmen Brandy Andersen and Ashley Hovda led the Western Carolina women's golf team to a comeback victory Wednesday at the John Kirk/ Lady Panther Intercollegiate. After being down by one stroke behind Miami in round two, the Lady Cats shot a 295 in round three (a new tournament record) to give them a three-day total of 891, which shatters the previous WCU three-round record (set earlier this year at the Lady Pirate Intercollegiate) by 22 strokes.

Andersen, last week's Wachovia - Great Smokies Intercollegiate champion, shot a 69 in round three (the only golfer to score under par for the day) to give her a three day total of 220, good for a fourth place finish and a top-four tournament record. Hovda, Tuesday's WCU forerunner, finished the tournament with a 226 to tie for 10th place. Not only did the two lead the way for the Cats this week, but as a freshman class they are ranked 17th in the nation by Golfstat. This is the second year in a row that a WCU women's freshman team has achieved this distinction.

Miami's Camilla Hilland took home the individual trophy after shooting a 215 for the tournament. She was followed by her teammate, Jazmin Cataldo, who finished with a 216.

The rest of the Catamounts fared well with Monday's team leader, Johanna Lundberg, finishing in a tie for 12th with a 227. Line Cordes and Becca Twiner both improved their standings after shooting well in round three. Cordes finished in 15th alone with a 228 and Twiner tied for 21st with a three-round score of 231. Impressively, all five Catamounts' three-day scores place them in the WCU record book for top three-round finishes.

Western has completed their fall tournament play and will return to action in the spring.
