STOCKBRIDGE, Ga.- The 10th Annual John Kirk/Lady Panther Intercollegiate began Monday at Eagles Landing Country Club, as 12 teams competed fiercely despite wet conditions. First-round records were matched and broken as 60 golfers played hard, seeking early leads that would sustain throughout the tournament.
Western Carolina has taken an early lead with an incomparable team score of 292, setting the record for the lowest first round team score in the tournament's ten year history, as well as a school record by one stroke. Jacksonville State is currently in second place with a 297. Miami will enter round two in third place, with a score of 299. Southern Miss and UCF round out the top five teams with 300 and 303, respectively. The host team, Georgia State, is in sixth place with 304.
Jazmin Cataldo and Camilla Holland, classmates at Miami, finished at a three-under par 69. Holland is currently ranked 18th in the country by Golfweek and both golfers tied the lowest individual first round tournament record set in 1995. Johanna Lundberg of Western Carolina, Florencia Moran of Jacksonville State and Leah Hart of Augusta State are only one stroke behind the leaders at 70.
Round two action kicks off Tuesday morning.
