Greenville, N.C. - Western Carolina posted a final round score of 306 on Sunday for a three-round total of 903 to finish eighth out of 20 teams at the Lady Pirate Invitational which was held at the par 72, 6,232-yard Bradford Creek Golf Course. The Catamounts' 54-hole, 903 score marked the sixth-best, three-round score in school history.

The eighth-place team finish snaps Western's tremendous run of 10-straight top five team finishes. However, the Catamounts have finished in the top five in 14 of their last 16 events overall.

Led by individual medalist, freshman Sarah Hunt, Birmingham-Southern rallied from down four strokes on the final day to claim the team championship by five strokes over the second-place Maryland Terrapins, 880-to-885. Augusta State was third with a three-round total of 887 with Central Florida and East Tennessee State, both with 889, rounding out the top five.

Western was led by junior Malin Fryk who carded a final round score of 77 to give her a three-round total of 225 to finish tied for 24th. Fryk's 225 ranks as the 12-lowest, 54-hole score in WCU history. She was followed by senior Bianca Melone, who rallied on Sunday with a 75 to finish tied for 29th. The Orlando, Fla., native carded a three-day total of 226 which ties for the 17th-best three-round score at WCU.

Junior Kandy Carland and freshman Desiree Karlsson each shot 229 over the weekend to finish tied for 42nd, with freshman Elin Mickelsson tying Melone for the Catamounts' lowest final round score of 75 to finish in a tie for 46th, one stroke back at 230.

Western will conclude the fall portion of its schedule on Oct. 30 through Nov. 1 at the Edwin Watts / Palmetto Intercollegiate hosted by the College of Charleston. The 54-hole tournament will again be held at Kiawah Island, S.C.
