Cullowhee, N.C. - The first-round leading Western Carolina Catamount women's golf team slipped to fourth-place after the second round of the ECU Lady Pirate Intercollegiate Saturday, carding a team 307 for a two-round total of 591. Senior Ashley Hovda, who was the individual leader after 18 holes, is still in contention for the individual medallist honor as she is tied for second after two rounds.

Hovda leads the way for the Catamounts, firing a 76 on Saturday after tying her career-best on Friday with a 66. Her two-round, two-under 142 is six strokes in back of the leader, Katie Stepanek from the University of Maryland, who fired a 67 on the second 18 holes to lead at eight-under, 136.

For Western, junior Bianca Melone is tied for 30th with a 150 (72-78), with transfer Malin Fryk making the largest jump for the Cats, moving from 54th to tied for 36th on Saturday. The Swedish sophomore is one stroke back of her teammate, Melone, at 151 (76-75). Seniors Brandy Andersen and Erika Danford finished the day tied for 45th and 62nd, respectively. Andersen shot 152 (74-78) through two rounds, while Danford carded 72 and 82 for a 36-hole total of 154.

After two rounds, Georgia State leads the field with a 575, with the University of Maryland rallying to second, six strokes in arrears at 581. Augusta State (583) is third, followed by Western and Birmingham-Southern tied at 591.

Play from the Bradford Creek Golf Club concludes on Sunday with the final 18 holes of the 54-hole tournament.
