Final Stats

Waynesville, N.C. - The Western Carolina women's golf team shattered the school's two-round tournament record by 15 strokes and went on to win the Wachovia - Great Smokies Women's Intercollegiate for the first time in the tournament's four year history. The team finished with a two-round score of 586. Their previous best, 600, was set just this year at the Lady Highlander Invitational. The Catamounts finished the second largest women's tournament in the country 15 strokes ahead of their next closet opponent, Murray State University.

Freshman Brandy Andersen was crowned the individual champion after she broke a record for the second straight day. After shooting a 66 Monday, she followed that up with a 75 to equal 141 and break the WCU two-round individual score by three strokes. The previous record was set by Line Cordes last spring at the Lady Catamount Intercollegiate.

"Next to the SoCon Tournament, this is the most important event for us," exclaimed head coach Steve Lott. "All of the team's hard work is really paying off. We finally broke 600, and in our own tournament, which we had never won before. That was really special.

"The first time I met Brandy, I knew she would be special," continued Lott. "She has proven that already. I'm very proud of her."

The Lady Catamounts broke four records all together for the tournament.

Joining Andersen on the all-tournament team were Laura Terebey of Radford, Lynn Mantooth of Austin Peay State and Crystal Anglea of Western Kentucky, who all three finished in a tie for second at 145. Also making the list was Catamount teammate Johanna Lundberg, who finished fifth with a 146 and Kelly Wren from Murray State, finishing in sixth with a 147. Rounding out the list were Hannah Storey of Gardner-Webb, Julie Smith of Tennessee Tech and Nikki Orazine of Murray State, who all finished in a tie for seventh with a 148.

The Catamounts travel to Atlanta for their final tournament of the fall. WCU will play in the John Kirk - Lady Panther Intercollegiate Oct. 28-30.
