Waynesville, N.C. - Western Carolina freshman Brandy Andersen broke the school and tournament record Monday as she shot a 66 in round one of the Wachovia - Great Smokies Women's Intercollegiate at the Waynesville Country Club. The school's previous record was a 69, set just last week by Becca Twiner at the Lady Pirate Intercollegiate. Andersen also shot a hole-in-one on the fourth hole en route to her record-breaking score.
The Catamounts lead the pack of 24 teams with a 293 team score, which also breaks a WCU record for a single-round by three strokes. The team shot a single-round 296 earlier this fall at the Lady Highlander Invitational. Western leads by seven strokes after round one.
Behind Andersen, it's a tight race in the top five. Western Kentucky's Crystal Anglea sits in second alone with a 70, good for two under par. In a tie for third are Laura Terebey from Radford and Lynn Mantooth of Austin Peay, both with a 71. In a tie for fifth are Wofford's Laura Robinson and Tennessee Tech's Julie Smith, both shooting a 72 in round one.
Final round action kicks off Tuesday morning at the Waynesville Country Club.
