Greenville, N.C. - Western Carolina sophomore Brandy Andersen claimed her fourth career individual title and second this year as the Catamount women's golf team finished in third place Tuesday in the 54-hole Lady Pirate Fall Intercollegiate. Western's team score of 897 ranks as the third-lowest, three-round score in WCU history. The tournament was held at the par-72, 6,093-yard course at Bradford Creek Golf Club in Greenville, N.C.

After completing 36 holes on Monday, the Cats stood in a tie with Purdue for fourth place overall with a 601 (295-306). Andersen slowly moved up the rungs from fifth to fourth for the day, ending the second round with a 74 to total 146 in two rounds. Bianca Melone, who led with East Carolina's Adrienne Millican after round one, shot a 79 in the second half of the day to tie for 16th.

The third round proved to be successful for the Lady Cats as they bounced back to card a 296 for the day. Andersen shot a 69 in the round, which ties for the second-lowest single-round score in WCU history. She took home medalist honors as well as all-tournament honors after completing the event with a one-under par 215, which is a tournament record.

Becca Twiner improved her standings in the field of 92 golfers after shooting a 75 in round three to finish in a tie for 11th with a 224 for the tournament. Melone completed the event with a 229 to tie for 24th along with teammate Ashley Hovda, who improved her score by eight strokes to card a 72 in the final round, also finishing with a 229. Jennifer Palmer tied for 78th overall with a 244.

Nationally ranked Mississippi State (No. 26) took home the team championship after posting a third round 299 to finish with a final score of 894. ECU, the host school, took second place with an 895. The Catamounts finished ahead of Southern Conference contenders College of Charleston (4th, 901), East Tennessee State (8th, 932), Elon (10th, 936) and UNC Greensboro (11th, 937).

Western will host the annual Wachovia-Great Smokies Intercollegiate next Monday and Tuesday, Oct. 20-21, at the Waynesville Country Club in Waynesville, N.C.
