Lexington, Ky. - The Western Carolina women's golf team fired a 321 and finished with a three-day total of 952 to place seventh in the 12-team field at the Wildcat Fall Invitational, played at the University Club of Kentucky. The 952 by the Catamounts ranks as the 14th-best 54-hole score in school history.

Junior Ashley Hovda paced the Catamounts individually by carding a three-day total of 236 to place 19th-t. Fellow junior Brandy Andersen led WCU on day three with a 76 to give her a 54-hole total of 240 and tie for 28th place. Freshman Lucinda Davies finished with a 242 for three days to tie for 31st, while sophomore Bianca Melone and freshman Kandy Carland each had 54-hole scores of 243 to tie for 36th.

Mississippi State walked away with both the team and individual titles. The Bulldogs fired an 898 to win by 30 strokes over second-place Miami (Fla.). MSU's Amanda Mathis carded a 219 for 54 holes two edge three others by five strokes for medalist honors. After second place Miami (928), teams three through six included Memphis (934), host team Kentucky (938), Murray State (943) and Richmond (945).

The Western Carolina women's golf team will have next weekend off before traveling to Greenville, N.C., to play in the East Carolina/Lady Pirate Fall Intercollegiate Oct. 11-12. The Lady Pirate Intercollegiate has traditionally been a strong event for the Catamounts as, in each of the past two years, Western has fired its third-best (897 in 2003) and fourth-best (913 in 2002) 54-hole scores in school history.
