Lexington, Ky. - The Western Carolina women's golf team sits in 11th place after round one of the University of Kentucky-Wildcat Invitational Friday. The Catamounts carded a 329 in day one, three strokes better than fellow Southern Conference member College of Charleston, which is in 12th place, and four better than UNC Greensboro in 13th.
Sophomore Brandy Andersen is currently leading the Cats after shooting a 76 on the day to tie for seventh. Freshman Bianca Melone sits in a tie for 32nd with an 82, senior Becca Twiner is tied for 60th with an 85 and sophomore Ashley Hovda is tied for 68th after shooting an 86. Sophomore Jennifer Palmer, competing for the first time this fall, scored a 93 in round one to finish in 91st place.
Mississippi State leads the pack after day one with a team score of 309. Kentucky's Marissa Muir is in first individually after shooting a 73 on the par-72 course.
The teams return to the links Saturday morning for round two of the Wildcat Fall Invitational with the final round commencing on Sunday.
