The Western Carolina women's gof team fired a 319 in tough weather conditions to stand in sixth place after 18 holes at the 12-team Wildcat Fall Invitational, played at the University Club of Kentucky.
Aas she did this past weekend, junior Ashley Hovda paced the Catamounts in round one, carding a seven-over 78. Hovda is tied for 17th, six shots out of first. Freshman Lucinda Davies was one stoke off Hovda's score with a 79 (19th-t). Bianca Melone and Kandy Carland each turned in rounds of 81 to tie for 34th. Brandy Andersen rounded out the Cats' scoring with an 82 (39th-t).
Mississippi State came in as the day one leader with a team score of 302, followed by Memphis (309), Miami (Fla.) (312), Murray State (313) and host Kentucky (316). Marshall, who is seventh, had the player with the low round on day one as Amber Churchill carded a 72.
Western Carolina has two rounds remaining in the 54-hole event.
