Sunset Beach, N.C. - Second round leader, Western Carolina junior Josefine Sundh, carded an even-par 216 over the 54-hole event to claim individual medalist honors and lead the Catamounts to the team championship at the Sea Trail Intercollegiate played on the Byrd Course at the par 72, 5-947-yard Sea Trail Resort.

Sundh edged runner-up, senior teammate, Desiree Karlsson, by four strokes to give WCU the top two finishers.

The Catamounts entered Sunday's final round one-stroke off the pace behind Longwood, which shot 295 on Saturday to claim the stroke advantage. Western posted a final round 302 to edge the Lancers by a stroke after Longwood turned in a 304 on Sunday, 897-to-898. Samford finished third, 11 strokes off the pace with a three-day total of 908, followed by host Elon (911) and Old Dominion (919) rounding out the top five.

WCU's 897 tied for the fourth-best, 54-hole score in school history, while the 216 for Sundh was her career-best three-round score and tied for the third-lowest, 54-hole tournament in school history.

With the win, Western Carolina has duplicated the program's best-ever start from 2005 when the Catamounts claimed three-straight team and individual titles. This season, Sundh and the Catamounts won the Draper Valley Intercollegiate, while freshman Malin Jansson and senior Tiffany Schisler shared medalist honors as the squad captured last weekend's Great Smokies Intercollegiate.

Sundh posted rounds of 71, 72 and 73 to finish at even-par, 216. Karlsson finished tied for second after shooting a 220 (73-77-70) over the three days. Jansson just missed the top 10, finishing 11th with a score of 228 (76-75-77) with sophomore Blaire Minter tallied a score of 233 (73-78-82) to finish tied for 20th for WCU.

Rounding out WCU's scorers was senior Tiffany Schisler in a two-way tie for 40th at 242, while sophomore Ashley Shinn finished amidst a two-way tie for 38th at 241 playing as an individual.

Western Carolina is off until October 11-13 when the Catamounts travel to the Lady Spider Intercollegiate at the Independence Golf Club in Richmond, Va.
