Cullowhee, N.C. - The Western Carolina women's golf team finished in third place at the College of Charleston Cougar Fall Invitational Tuesday shooting a two-round score of 613, the team's second best two-round score in school history.

After day one, the Catamounts sat in fourth place with a 311 among the field of 13 teams, including five SoCon schools. Becca Twiner led the way for the Cats, shooting a 75 on the par 72 course to tie for sixth. Coastal Carolina led the pack with an even 300 for the day, but it was College of Charleston's Sapna Patel who was on top individually with a par 72.

Day two proved to be just as challenging with high winds moving in on the golfers. But the Lady Cats pulled out their second best single round score ever, shooting a 302 collectively. Twiner remained on top for the team, shooting a 76 in round two for a two-day score of 151 to put her in fifth place. However, it was Johanna Lundberg with the big day, improving her one-round score by nine strokes to land her in a tie for ninth place (81-72=153). Line Cordes and Brandy Andersen also finished in the top 20 with a two-round score of 156.

"Even though we shot a 296 in the last tournament, I think this was definitely our best single-round score (302) considering the extreme windy conditions," said WCU coach Steve Lott. "I'm very proud of them. They just keep getting better."

College of Charleston was declared the champion, coming in at 597 after two rounds (302-295). Patel stayed on top as the individual champion, shooting a 145 (72-73).
