Pulaski, Va. - The Western Carolina women's golf team continues to get off to a great season, shattering more than one school record en route to finishing fourth at the Radford University - Lady Highlander Invitational Tuesday with a two-round team score of 600. WCU edged out Appalachian State in fifth place, Wofford in 11th and The Citadel, coming in at 12th.
The team not only tied the record they set last week in the Unlimited Potential/Baytree Classic with a single-round 304 on Monday, they surpassed that record by eight strokes with a round two team total of 296 today. They also posted a new 36-hole record with their final two-round total of 600, six strokes better than their previous record set in the Lady Catamount Intercollegiate last spring.
Line Cordes led the way for the Lady Cats, coming in at a tie for 12th with a two-round score of 148 (75-73), which stands as the third best two-round individual score (Cordes holds the top two spots as well). Johanna Lundberg and Brandy Andersen tied for 16th, each shooting a 150 (78-72 and 77-73 respectively). Lundberg's second round for a par 72 ties her best single round score set at WCU?s 2002 spring tournament.
Ashley Hovda shot a two-round 154 (76-78) to tie for 29th and Meredith Beck (playing unattached) finished right behind her with a 155 (81-74) to tie for 33rd. Becca Twiner finished the tournament in a tie for 36th for the Catamounts, shooting a 156 (76-80).
Longwood University came away as the tournament champions with a team score of 586 (295-291). Winthrop's Elin Granstrand was the individual winner, shooting a 142 (70-72).
Western travels to Charleston next week to play in College of Charleston's Cougar Fall Invitational Sept. 23-24.
