Catamount Women's Golf Finishes 11th at Season-Opening Event

William & Mary Invitational - FINAL RESULTS Get Acrobat Reader

Williamsburg, Va. - Western Carolina women's golf concluded play in the season-opening William & Mary Invitational on Monday afternoon, finishing in 11th place overall in the first competition of the year held at the par-72, 6,122-yard Kingsmill Resort River Course.

Senior Alyssa Morahan led the Catamount scoring five over the three-round tournament, jumping three spots in the final order to finish 54th overall with a score of 247 (85-82-80). Junior transfer Shannon Heerey advanced one spot on the final day to come home tied for 60th overall with a score of 256 (89-85-82).

Rounding out the lineup for WCU was senior Amanda Floberg in 63rd overall at 259 (88-82-89), with sophomore Brianna Plummer (91-86-87) and freshman Maya White (87-92-85) both placing in a tie for 65th overall with matching scores of 264.

Penn State edged UNCW by two strokes, 888-to-890, to take the team title. The Seahawks rallied from third to the runner-up spot on Monday. Seton Hall was relegated to third at 892, followed by a two-way tie for fourth between the College of Charleston and tournament-host, William & Mary, with matching scores of 903.

Jackie Rogowicz of Penn State and Thao My Nguyen from UNCW finished the 54-hole event tied atop the individual leader board with matching scores of 2-over par, 218. Rogowicz, however, claimed medalist honors by winning a one-hole playoff.

Western Carolina returns to action on Sept. 22-24 at the Lady Paladin Invitational, hosted by Furman University at their on-campus golf course in Greenville, S.C. It's WCU's first trip to the Upstate tournament since 2014. The three-round event will be played over a three day stretch with live scoring through BirdieFire.com.
