Myrtle Beach, S.C. - The Western Carolina women's golf team finished the Unlimited Potential/Bay Tree Classic in 11th place Sunday afternoon with a two-round score of 629. In the rain shortened event, Coastal Carolina found the conditions just right. The Chanticleers led by ten shots after the first day of competition and in the final round the team stretched its lead by three shots for the championship win at 602.
The individual medalist for the event was Radford's Laura Terebey who fired the only round under par for the day with a 67 on the Silver course. James Madison's Carol Green was the individual runner-up firing a 71-76 for a 147 on the weekend. Coastal Carolina was led by Line Cordes who tallied a 72 in today's round and shot a 149 for the tournament being joined by teammate Natalie Cruse at that number.
The Catamounts were led by sophomore Brandy Andersen, who shot a 76 in both rounds for a 152, which ties for 16th. Senior Becca Twiner improved her game by five strokes in the second round, carding a 75 for the day to finish with a 155.
After Saturday's round was rained out, the normally three round tournament was decreased to a two day event with the final round occurring Sunday. The top 24 teams after Friday's round played in the tournament championship today on the Green course, which was won by Coastal Carolina. Teams 25-36 played in the Silver course championship which Radford took home at 646 for the weekend. Georgetown was the runner up for the event finishing two shots back at 648.
In the Silver course championship, Laura Terebey took home the medalist honors along with the medalist honors for the tournament. Terebey's 67 is the lowest round fired in the six year history of the event. Coastal Carolina's 296 in the first round of the event on the Gold course is the second lowest team round in the history of the tournament.
