Winston-Salem, N.C. - The Western Carolina women's golf team finished strong at the NCAA East Regional Saturday, coming in 16th overall, completing the three-round tournament with a 913. The Lady Catamounts shot a 300 (+16) in the final round and finished ahead of UNC Wilmington (918), Georgia State (919), Mississippi (920), South Florida (922), and St. Francis-Pa. (981).

Freshman Brandy Andersen led the Cats, finishing in 18th (tied) individually with a 219 after she and teammate Johanna Lundberg both shot a 73 for the final round. Lundberg tied for 40th with a 225. Line Cordes came in at 232 to tie for 75th, while freshman Ashley Hovda tied for 89th with a 238. All Catamounts shot in the 70's for the day with Rebecca Twiner making the comeback to shoot a 78.

After leading throughout the entire tournament, Duke took home first place honors, shooting an 857. Furman's Brandi Jackson jumped ahead of the previous two individual leaders to claim medalist honors, carding a 66 in the final round to finish with a 205 (-8). With Furman not advancing as a team, Jackson will go on to compete at the NCAA Championship individually, along with Penn State's Katie Futcher who finished the final round tied for third with a 211.

Joining Duke at Purdue for the NCAA Championship will be Georgia, Vanderbilt, Auburn, Arizona, North Carolina, South Carolina and Florida State.
