Winston-Salem, N.C. - The Western Carolina women's golf team moved into a tie for 16th place with Georgia State and UNC Wilmington after the second round of the NCAA East Regional at the Salem Glen Country Club in Winston-Salem, N.C. The Catamounts combined to shoot a 307 (+23) in day two for a two-round total of 613 and now stand ahead of South Florida (616), Mississippi (624) and St. Francis-Pa. (655).

Freshman Brandy Andersen paced the Cats for the day, coming at par (71) for a two-day total of 146, good for a share of 13th place. This was the sixth time this year the 2003 SoCon Freshman of the Year has shot a 71 or better, more times than any other Lady Cat in the history of the program. Johanna Lundberg posted a 75 for Western (152), while Ashley Hovda carded an 80 (159). Line Cordes, who led with Andersen on round one, shot an 81 for the day (156) and Rebecca Twiner struggled to come back after falling ill in the opening round, but managed an 84 in the second.

Duke, the number one team in the country, still leads the pack, improving their score by two strokes for a two-day total of 574. North Carolina's Meaghan Francella moved into sole possession of first place after shooting two under for the second consecutive day, now with a 138.

The final round of the East Regional continues on Saturday. The top eight teams and three individuals from this region will advance to the NCAA Championship May 20-23 at Purdue University.
