Hollywood, S.C. - Western Carolina sophomore Desiree Karlsson was named All-Southern Conference for the second-straight season as the Catamounts finished seventh overall at the 2008 SoCon Women's Golf Championship concluded Tuesday afternoon at the par 72, 6,022-yard The Links at Stono Ferry.

Karlsson, who was the conference Freshman of the Year a season ago, led WCU by finishing in a two-way tie for 14th with a 54-hole score of 233. She was one of just three players to shoot an eagle during the three-day event.

With four players inside the individual top 10, Furman claimed the 2008 SoCon championship by eight strokes over second-place UNC Greensboro, 901-to-909. Elon was third with a three-day score of 926, followed by the College of Charleston (928) and Chattanooga (943) to round out the top five.

Lady Paladin golfer Stefanie Kenoyer finished with a two-over par 218 to win the individual medalist honor by four strokes over Elon's Danielle Mills (222). Charleston's Steffi Kirchmayer and Chattanooga's Christina Wolf finished tied for third two strokes in arrears at 224.

Playing without its two All-SoCon seniors, Malin Fryk and Kandy Carland, Western struggled through a tough course with rounds of 324, 319 and 320. Karlsson paced the Catamounts posting a tourney-high tying 36 pars. Freshman Katja Dammann, who ranked tied for second in par 5 scoring at two-under for the tournament, finished 16th in her first-ever conference championship event.

Rounding out Western's finishers were sophomore Elin Mickelsson and freshman Josefine Sundh tied for 32nd (250) and freshman Tiffany Schisler in 36th (256).

The tournament concludes the season for Western Carolina, which posted six top 10 finishes including a pair of top five finishes.
