Western Carolina Women's Golf Eighth After Opening Round at Southern Conference Championship

Hollywood, S.C. - Western Carolina stands in eighth place after the opening round of the Southern Conference Women's Golf Championship being contested at the par 72, 6,022-yard The Links at Stono Ferry. WCU is 10 strokes out of fifth place entering Monday's second round.

Furman holds a three-stroke lead over UNC Greensboro, 294-to-297, with Elon in third four strokes in arrears at 301. Rounding out the top five are Chattanooga (305) and the College of Charleston (314).

Stefanie Kenoyer of Furman leads the 44-golfer field with a two-under, 70, on Sunday, one-stroke ahead of Elon's Danielle Mills who carded a one-under, 71. Three golfers stand tied for third with one-over rounds of 73 as Elon's Tara McFadden, UNCG's Ashley Mylton and Furman's Jaclyn Hilea round out the top five from the first round.

For the Catamounts, sophomore Desiree Karlsson led the way through the first round with a seven-over, 79, to stand tied for 22nd. Freshmen Katja Dammann and Josefine Sundh are one-stroke back with opening round scores of 80, tied for 34th. A third golfer making her first-ever SoCon tournament appearances, sophomore Tiffany Schisler, shot 85 to be in the clubhouse in 36th place, while sophomore Elin Mickelsson fired 87 to stand tied for 39th.
