Waynesville, N.C. - The rain-delayed second round of the Southern Conference Women's Golf Championship finally got off to a shotgun start Monday afternoon, April 21, at the Waynesville Country Club in Waynesville, N.C. After shooting a 293 for the day, Western Carolina secured first place alone in the eight-team field with a two-day total of 591 on the 5,900-yard course. Defending champion Furman improved its score by 10 strokes, carding a 294 to give them 598 overall.
Western Carolina freshman Brandy Andersen shot a 69 for three under par, giving her a two-day total of 140 to put her in first place alone. Furman's Brandi Jackson closed in on the leader, also recording a 69 in round two to give her 143 overall.
The Catamounts now have all five players in the top 20, after all five shot in the 70s or below in the second round, with Furman and UNC Greensboro each having four players in the field's top 20. The Spartans are on the move after shooting a 300 today, improving by 14 strokes in round two, standing in fourth behind Charleston by only two strokes.
The final round of the Championship will tee off at 8:56 am Tuesday, April 22.
