Cullowhee, N.C. - The Western Carolina women's golf team stands ninth out of 16 teams after 36 of the scheduled 54 holes at the Par 72, 6,046-yard Lakeview Golf Course in Harrisonburg, Va.

Leading the way for the Catamounts was junior Brandy Andersen, who carded an 80 on the first 18 and 79 on the second to stand with a total of 159, tied for 28th with six other golfers. Classmate Ashley Hovda recovered from an 83 in the first round to fire a team-low 77 in the second. The Springfield, Ohio, native ended the first day tied for 37th.

Freshman Lucinda Davies carded a two-round total of 162 to stand tied for 47th, while sophomore Bianca Melone is one stroke back at 163 (83-80), but is tied for 51st. Another freshman, Kandy Carland, struggled on the second 18, backing her opening 81 with an 86, stands tied for 72nd. Finishing out the Catamount entries into the tournament is junior Erika Danford, who is tied for 59th after carding 165 (82-83) as an individual.

Host institution James Madison leads after two rounds, firing a 304 and 301 (305) to hold a one-stroke lead over second place Princeton (306). Rounding out the top five are Augusta State in third, followed by Methodist College and Ohio University. Southern Conference members Elon and Appalachian State stand in sixth and 14th, respectively.

The tournament's individual leader is Augusta State's Garrett Phillips with a 72-71--143. Princeton's Avery Kiser is second at 76-71--147, and Methodist's Katie Dick (74-75--149) and Charlotte Williams (75-74--149) are tied with Davies for third.

The tournament concludes with a single round Sunday, beginning at 8:00 a.m.
