Western Carolina Women's Golf Seventh After Opening Round at UNCW Lady Seahawk Invitational

Wallace, N.C. - Western Carolina carded an opening round of 306 to stand in seventh place entering Tuesday's final round at the UNC Wilmington Lady Seahawk Invitational being played at the par 72, 6,183-yard River Landing Golf Course.

Led by sophomore Belen Diaz Cisneros, Campbell raced out to a five-stroke lead over East Carolina after the first round, leading 296-to-301. Southern Conference foe, UNC Greensboro, is third two strokes in arrears at 303, followed by a three-way tie for fourth between UNCW, William & Mary and North Carolina State at 305.

Cisneros is tied with East Carolina's Abby Bools atop the individual leaderboard, each at even par, 72.

Sophomore Desiree Karlsson led the Catamounts with a three-over, 75, on Monday to enter the final 18 holes tied for tenth place. Western had three players each fire 77 in the opening round to stand tied for 27th. Freshmen Josefine Sundh and Tiffany Schisler, as well as sophomore Elin Mickelsson each shot five-over. The round for Schisler was her career-low, one stroke better than her previous best round shot last week at the John Kirk / Panther Intercollegiate.

Freshman Katja Dammann rounded out WCU's scorers by shooting 84, tied for 76th overall.

The final round is scheduled for Tuesday.
