Hilton Head Island, S.C. - Heavy rain storms overnight and lingering rain showers on Sunday morning left the South Course at the Moss Creek Golf Club unplayable, shortening the Lowcountry Intercollegiate to just one round which will get underway on Monday morning.
Hosted by Wofford College, a combined 19 teams including three schools - DePauw, Dartmouth and Brown with two squads - will battle for the team championship. In addition to Wofford and WCU, Southern Conference schools Appalachian State and The Citadel are in the field. The only round of play gets underway with a shotgun start at 9:30 am on Monday.
It is WCU's fourth tournament this year that has been affected by rain. Back in the fall, the Great Smokies Intercollegiate was condensed from two days into one day with all 36 holes played consecutively. Also in the fall, East Carolina's Lady Pirate Intercollegiate was shortened to a one-round event while the third round of the spring-opening High Point University Classic was cancelled leaving the 36-hole results as final.
Making its return to the event after a two-year hiatus, the Catamount women claimed the first two event championships. WCU won the first-ever Lowcountry Intercollegiate by six strokes over its co-host, Wofford College, in 2009 before edging James Madison by two strokes in 2010. WCU is coming off a ninth-place showing at the MSU Ocala Spring Invitational
Complete results will be made available online at CatamountSports.com on Monday.
