BURLINGTON, NC -- The 76-golfer, 14-team field participating in the fifth annual Elon Intercollegiate Women's Golf Invitational Tournament was unable to complete Sunday's competition at Indian Valley Golf Course due to rain.
With the tournament being shortened from two rounds of 18 holes to one, Saturday's first-round results became the final results. Western Carolina (322) was declared the champion, followed by Lenoir-Rhyne (324), Radford (326), Elon (328), Tusculum (335), Wofford (337), Gardner-Webb (344), Catawba (344), Georgetown (347), Maryland-Baltimore County (354), Anderson (356), Hampton (365), Monmouth (367) and Long Island (367).
Radford's Laura Terebey (36-35--71) was declared the first place medalist. She was followed by Tusculum's Rachel McFarland (37-39--76), and Western Carolina's Line Cordes (40-37--77) and Elon's Laura Orlen (40-37--77) who tied for third.
Other WCU golfers placing in the top 20 were Johanna Lundberg (38-40--78), finishing fifth for the Catamounts, and Rebecca Twiner (39-40--79), finishing at a tie for sixth place. Mary Faulk (43-45--88) finished 40th, and Brook Stillman (43-46--89) finished 45th.
The Catamounts return to action April 8-9 when they host the Lady Catamount Intercollegiate Tournament at the Waynesville Country Club.
