Citrus Springs, Fla. - The Lady Catamounts steamrolled their way from fifth place all the way to a tournament title Tuesday as Western Carolina topped Princeton by 14 strokes to win the Lady Herd/El Diablo Intercollegiate. The Cats fired a 297 in the third and final round to end the event with a team score of 918, the squad's fifth-lowest all-time, three-round score. This is Western's first title of the spring season after claiming two victories this past fall.
It was a sweet homecoming of sorts for senior Becca Twiner, who got to play near her hometown of Crystal River, less than 15 miles from the tournament site. Making her homecoming a stellar one, Twiner took hold of first place in the final round after shooting a 69 to end the tournament with a three-round score of 219, bettering Florida Atlantic's Natalia Navarro by one stroke to win the individual title. This is Twiner's second first place finish of her career as she also won the 2001 Belmont Lady Bruin Invitational.
Due to technical difficulties, complete results will not be available until Wednesday. However, the overall team finishes are listed below.
The Catamounts have a 16-day break before heading to Richmond, Va., for the Lady Spider Intercollegiate April 2-4.
