Tega Cay, S.C. - The Western Carolina women's golf team finished the first round of Winthrop University's Shamrock Intercollegiate in second place Friday with a team score of 321, just behind field-leader Elon with a 319. All Catamounts are currently in the top 20 of the 71-golfer field.
WCU freshman Brandy Andersen has positioned herself in a tie for first individually with St. Mary's (Texas) Jillian Wyne, shooting a 77 in round one (40-37). Sophomores Line Cordes and Johanna Lundberg are tied for eighth after both posting an 80 for the day. Junior Rebecca Twiner sits in a tie for 17th with an 84 and freshman Ashley Hovda rounds out the Catamounts with an 85 to tie for 19th.
The Lady Cats continue with round two of the invitational on Saturday and finish the final round of the tournament on Sunday.
