Hilton Head, S.C. - Defending tournament team champion Western Carolina collectively carded 304 as a team on Saturday to lead by five strokes over a three-way tie for second place the Low Country Intercollegiate being held on the par 72, 5,814-yard South Course at the Moss Creek Golf Club. WCU's Blaire Minter was among four to shoot two-over 74 on Saturday, battling both the tough layout and windy conditions, to stand tied atop the individual leader board.

The second and final round will begin with a shotgun start beginning at 9:30 am.

WCU is followed by a three-way tie between Augusta State, Jacksonville and James Madison five strokes in arrears at 309. Richmond is 11 strokes off the pace at 315 to round out the top five teams after the opening round.

Minter, the defending medalist of the event, shot par on 15 of her first 18 holes to lead the field in conjunction with Yue Xu of Appalachian State; Natalie Wille of Augusta State; and Richmond's Jillian Fraccola. Minter, a native of Marietta, Ga., also was the only player to shoot under par on the par 4 holes (3.90). Xu and Bree Baumgartner of The Citadel each recorded Eagles in the first round.

Also for the Catamounts, junior Josefine Sundh is in the clubhouse in a three-way tie for fifth while senior Desiree Karlsson is tied for eighth giving WCU three inside the top 10. Sundh shot a three-over, 75, while Karlsson was one-stroke back after shooting four-over, 76.

Rounding out Western Carolina's lineup was freshman Malin Jansson in a tie for 20th after shooting 79 with senior Tiffany Schisler firing 87 to stand tied for 57th.

Western Carolina led the 14-team field by scoring par on 56 holes combined - including Minter's 15 - which was one more than Jacksonville at 55. The Catamounts carded five birdies, while Augusta State and Wofford each recorded eight apiece to pace the field.
