Tampa, Fla. - The Western Carolina women's golf team sits in a tie for fifth after round one of the 18th annual Snowbird Classic in Tampa, Fla., hosted by Northern Illinois University. The Catamounts fired a 321 on the opening day of the tournament and are led by sophomore Ashley Hovda who shot a 77 for the round to tie for 12th overall.
Hovda is follwed by sophomore Brandy Andersen (80), senior Becca Twiner (81), freshman Bianca Melone (83) and sophomore Erika Danford (84).
Southern Mississippi leads the 18-team tournament after shooting 297 as a team. USM golfer Jennifer Keefe fired an even-par 72 and leads the event by two shots over teammate Mia Davidson, who toured the Pebblecreek Golf and Country Club with a 2-over-par 74.
The final round of the 2004 Snowbird Classic concludes on Friday (Mar. 12), with tee times beginning at 8:00 am. (EST).
