Greenville, N.C. - The Western Carolina women's golf team finished sixth out of 14 teams with a two-round 615 at the Lady Pirate Bradford Creek Intercollegiate over the weekend. After round one was rained out on Friday, the tournament got underway on Saturday, after which WCU stood in fourth place with a 304. The tournament was played at the par-72, 6,093-yard Bradford Creek Golf course.
Freshman Ashley Hovda led the charge for the Catamounts with a 149, which ties the program's sixth lowest two-round individual score, giving her an 11th place finish. Hovda shot two under par in round one for 70 to tie for first. She finished the tournament with a 79 on Sunday.
Brandy Andersen and Line Cordes tied for 29th overall, each shooting a 156 for the weekend. Becca Twiner finished in a tie for 40th with a 159 and Johanna Lundberg rounded out the Catamount roster, shooting a 165 to tie for 53rd.
East Carolina, the host of the tournament, took home the first place trophy, finishing with a 36-hole total of 579, which was a new school record for the Lady Pirates. Leah Hart of Augusta State came in first individually, shooting 72 in round one and following it up with a round two 71 for a 36-hole total of 143.
The Lady Cats head to Rock Hill, S.C., this weekend to compete in the Shamrock Intercollegiate, hosted by Winthrop, March 14-16.
