Pinehurst, N.C. - The Pinehurst Challenge, originally slated for Mar. 2-3 at Pinehurst #6 has been cancelled due to inclement weather. The Western Carolina women's golf team and host College of Charleston were among the 20 teams scheduled to participate at the par-71 5,967-yd. course.

The decision to cancel the 36-hole event was made after snow and ice blanketed the area yesterday evening. It was determined that the course would not be playable Monday with temperatures hovering all day around freezing and no chance for the snow and ice to melt.

Officials decided that the course would not be ready Tuesday as well due to temperatures dropping to the teens later on this evening and not reaching above freezing until that afternoon.

Western Carolina will co-host the Low Country Intercollegiate with Wofford College on March 6-8 at the Moss Creek Resort - North in Hilton Head, S.C. A total of 12 teams will compete for the tournament championship in the first of two tournaments that the Catamount women will host this spring.
