Catamounts Put 25 on Spring SoCon Academic All-Conference
Fifteen student-athletes graduated with honors as 41 walked across the stage to earn their degrees from Western Carolina.
Blaire Minter finished tied for 10th, Rachel Nelson tied for 12th to lead Catamounts
2011-12 (Senior): Played among Western Carolina's scoring five in all 10 seasonal events, finishing second on the squad in scoring average at 76.25 ... Ranked seventh in the Southern Conference in stroke average, earning her second All-Southern Conference accolade ... Posted five top 10 finishes in her final year including three-consecutive to conclude the season ... Carded her career-low round of 69 on the opening 18 holes en route to a sixth-place finish at the John Kirk / Panther Intercollegiate (Spring, 2012) ... Recorded a career-best finish in the SoCon Men's Golf Championship, finishing in a tie for 10th place ... Her top 10 finish in the conference finale is the 18th turned in by a WCU women's golfer all-time, with her becoming the 13th different Catamount to place inside the top 10 individuals at the conference championship.
2010-11 (Junior): Played in all 10 events on the season, finishing third on the squad in stroke average at 77.30 - tied with her 2009-10 seasonal average for 18th on the school's single-season ledger and ranked 14th among golfers from the Southern Conference ... Paced the squad in two events, recording three top 10 finishes and one inside the top five ... Earned the second Southern Conference Player of the Week accolades of her career after guiding WCU to a fourth-place team finish at the Edwin Watts / Kiawah Island Classic, the largest collegiate women's golf tournament in the country ... Fired a three-round, two-over par 218 - tied for the seventh-best, 54-hole score in school history - to place fourth as an individual with two of her three rounds scored under par including a two-under 70 in the second round ... She is only one of five WCU women's golfers to ever receive weekly plaudits from the SoCon and is the third all-time to receive multiple honors ... Finished tied for ninth to lead the Catamounts to a third-place finish at the annual Great Smokies Intercollegiate ... Finished tied for 20th at the Southern Conference Women's Golf Championship, the best showing in her career.
2009-10 (Sophomore): Competed in all 11 events and 27 rounds on the season with four top 10 finishes and two top five showings ... Ranked fourth on the team with a 77.30 stroke average on the season ... Twice paced the squad in tournament play ... Opened the season with a sixth-place finish at the Draper Valley Intercollegiate ... Scored a touranment-low stroke average of 71.00 with a fourth-place showing at the Great Smokies Intercollegiate ... Finished tied for seventh to help WCU finish as the team runner-up at the Pinehurst Challenge in the fall season finale ... Led the Catamounts with a third-place showing as WCU won the Low Country Intercollegiate in Hilton Head, S.C. ... Again led the side with a fifth-place finish at the Mimosa Hills Intercollegiate.
2008-09 (Freshman): Led the squad with a 76.65 stroke average through the 10 events and 26 total rounds, the eighth-best single-season in school history ... Paced the team in five of the 10 events on the season, recording three top five finishes and four top 10's ... Twice carded her career-low round of 70 ... Named All-Southern Conference, as well as to the inaugural All-Freshman team ... Garnered Southern Conference Women's Golfer of the Month honors in September after winning her first-ever collegiate tournament in her first career start at the Draper Valley Intercollegiate and finishing tied for fourth at the Great Smokies Intercollegiate ... Tallied her second career victory with a first-place showing at the Low Country Intercollegiate, co-hosted by WCU and Wofford at the Moss Creek Resort in Hilton Head, S.C. ... Finished tied for 28th in the 2009 Southern Conference Women's Golf Championships.
Prior to Western: Had a great junior golf career ... Was a three-time, All-County selection, 2007 Golfer of the Year and the 2006 winner of the Bobby Jones Sportsmanship Award ... Was a four-time member of the All-Atlanta Junior Golf (AJG) team and has twice represented the AJG in the Atlanta/Kauai Matches in Hawaii ... She has multiple wins on the Atlanta Junior Golf Tour and the Southeastern Golf Tour ... Academically, is a very good student who will help WCU Women's Golf maintain its level of excellence in the classroom.
