Western Carolina vs South Carolina Game Notes
Columbia, S.C. - On Thursday (Dec. 29), the Western Carolina Lady Catamounts return to the hardwood, visiting directional rival, South Carolina, at 7:00 pm in the Colonial Center in Columbia, S.C.
According to WCU records, the Lady Cats and Gamecocks have tangled six times previously, with Western trailing in the all-time series, 2-4. Western's head coach, Kellie Harper, owns a 7-3 record all-time as a player and an assistant coach against USC, including a 5-0 mark as a player at Tennessee.
South Carolina (7-3) enters Thursday's meeting riding a five-game winning streak, which includes a victory over then 14th-ranked Minnesota. The Gamecocks boast a 7-1 record at home inside the Colonial Center. However, the lone loss came at the hands of Southern Conference member, Georgia Southern, 73-66. The Gamecocks are led by freshman Demetress Adams, who is the reigning Southeastern Conference (SEC) Player and Freshman of the Week.
Western (0-8) continues to search for the illusive first victory of the season. Of the eight losses this year, four have been by three points or less, including the close two-point defeat 10-days ago at High Point. The Lady Catamounts are led by freshman Lauren Powell and sophomore Chevon Keith, each of which are averaging double-digit scoring. Keith continues to rank among the SoCon's leaders in rebounding with her 9.1 boards per game average.
Thursday's game will be broadcast live by the Catamount Sports Network and can be heard locally in Cullowhee on WWCU-FM, Power 90dot5 and in the Asheville area on WZNN 1350-AM.
