Spartanburg, S.C. - Western Carolina Women's basketball guard Yoneko Allen has been named the TIAA-CREF Southern Conference Student Athlete of the Week.

Allen, a junior from Gray Court, SC, led Western Carolina to wins over UNC Asheville and Radford last week, while maintaining a 3.975 GPA as a triple major in sport management, business administration and law and marketing. For the week, she paced the team in minutes played (31.5), tied for the team lead with six assists and ranked second on the team by averaging 13.0 points per game. For the season, she has helped the Catamounts to a 5-1 record, tops in the SoCon, averaging 9.7 points per game.

Allen led all scorers with 17 points, which tied a career high, in a win over Radford. Against UNC Asheville, she posted a season-high four assists with nine points, going 4-of-4 from the free throw line.

A team captain this season, Allen was recipient of several academic honors last season. She was Western's Female Student-Athlete of the Year, while being named Verizon Academic All-District III and an Arthur Ashe, Jr., Sports Scholar.

The WCU women's basketball team will return to action next Wednesday (Dec. 18) at Wake Forest.
