Lady Catamounts Face Rival UNC Asheville Tonight

Dec. 2, 2008

CULLOWHEE, N.C. - Western Carolina women's basketball completes its three-game road swing today facing rival UNC Asheville at 7 p.m. in the Justice Center.

The Lady Catamounts (2-3) are looking for their first road win of the season picking up both victories at home. Western Carolina has two road losses to Top-10 opponents in North Carolina and Tennessee and also lost at Montana State.

UNC Asheville (1-5) is coming off a 67-64 loss to South Carolina State. The Bulldogs lone win of the season was a 64-58 home victory over Montreat.

Western Carolina has won the last two meetings. The Lady Catamounts defeated the Bulldogs 89-47 last season in Cullowhee. Two years ago, in Asheville, Western Carolina held on for an 81-78 victory.

Asheville native and Western Carolina senior Lauren Powell will be chasing a Catamount record when she enters the Justice Center tonight. The 6-0 guard has 178 made three-pointers in her career and needs just three more to break the school record (180) for three-pointers in a career.

Western Carolina returns home Sunday December 7 when the club hosts Middle Tennessee at 4 p.m. in the Ramsey Center.
