Cullowhee, N.C. - On Saturday, Dec. 3, Western Carolina will welcome the UNC Asheville Bulldogs for a basketball doubleheader in the Ramsey Center. The Lady Catamounts and Bulldogs will tip-off at 4:30 pm, followed by the men's game scheduled to start at 7:00 pm.

During a pre-game ceremony before the women's contest, the athletics department will honor Western's 2005 SoCon Tournament Champion Lady Catamount basketball team by hanging a championship banner from the rafters to forever immortalize that squad. In addition, Saturday marks the women's first home game of the season and the 41st time the Cats and `Dogs have done battle on the hardwood.

Also, a very special guest will be spending the day in Cullowhee on Saturday in preparation for his big day coming up on the 25th. Santa Claus will be stopping by the Ramsey Center to take photos with area youth, as well as checking his list and taking Christmas requests. He will have some of his jolly ol' elves from the Western Carolina Music Department with him to help spread holiday cheer as a trumpet ensemble will perform on the concourse prior to the women's game, with a flute ensemble playing carols before the men's contest. Concession stands will also have hot chocolate available for purchase during both games.

In an attempt to bring as much holiday joy to as many area children as possible, the Western Carolina Department of Athletics asks all fans to bring a new, unwrapped present or a package of socks to the contest to benefit the Jackson County Christmas Store. Those who participate will get free admittance to the game.

In addition to bringing a gift to the UNCA doubleheader, you can sponsor a child for $50; $30 going for new gifts and $20 going towards new clothing (including socks and underwear as suggested by the mother). The Christmas Store will provide a card with relevant information for each child and those willing to assist will return these gifts to the Christmas Store.

For more information on the Christmas Store or if you would like to sponsor a child, call United Christian Ministries (828-586-8228) during the office hours of 10 am-3 pm on Monday-Friday.

If you are unable to bring a gift, basketball fans can still see a great doubleheader for one low price. By ordering your ticket online (www.catamountsports.com) and typing the promotional code "FAN," fans can buy up to four reserved tickets for just $5. For more information, call 1-800-34-GOWCU.
