CULLOWHEE, N.C. - Western Carolina women's basketball (2-3) opens Southern Conference play with UNCG (1-3) at 5 p.m. Saturday.
The Catamounts are coming off a 51-48 loss to USC Upstate on Tuesday. UNCG fell at Liberty 76-56 then same day. The Catamounts have wins over UNC Asheville and North Carolina Central. The Spartans lone win is a 55-49 victory against Gardner-Webb at home.
Western Carolina is 9-19, all-time, in opening Southern Conference games since joining the SoCon in the 1982-83 season. The Catamounts and Spartans are tied in their overall meetings, having won 30 games a-piece. This will be the 61st meeting between the two teams.
Redshirt senior Diamond Hunnicutt paces the Catamounts averaging 9.4 points per game. At least one Catamount has scored in double figures in four of the first five games of the season.

Freshman Lucy Mason leads UNCG averaging 16.3 points per game. She had a career-high 18 points in the Spartans loss to Liberty on November 27.
