CULLOWHEE, N.C. -Western Carolina women's basketball (4-2) returns home Tuesday to host Georgia State (1-3) at 7 p.m. in the Ramsey Center.
COACHES LUNCHEON TUESDAY: Western Carolina athletics will host a Catamount Men's and Women's Basketball luncheon from 11:45 a.m. until 1 p.m. Tuesday at O'Malley's Bar and Grill of Sylva ... Head Men's and Women's basketball coaches Larry Hunter and Karen Middletonwill be on hand for chalk talk and a question/answer session.
WIN OVER TOP-25 MID-MAJOR RANKED TEAM:Western Carolina's 61-58 win over Tennessee Tech was a victory against a Golden Eagles' team ranked 25th in the Collegeinsiders.com Mid-Major Top-25 ... Tennessee Tech was ranked 25th in the poll released on November 22.
NO BLOCK IN SIGHT:For the first time this season, Western Carolina failed to get a block in a game ... Tennessee Tech, on the other hand, posted a season-high seven blocks against the Catamounts.
MENENDEZ MISSES: After hitting 22 straight free throws, to start the season, senior guard Kaila'Shea Menendezmissed her first free throw of the season against Tennessee Tech ... She missed the front end of a pair of free throws, with 10:16 left in the game ... If Menendez had hit both free throws, it would have tied the game at 51, hitting one, the Catamounts were down by one, 51-50.
MENENDEZ FIVE OF SIX DOUBLE: Senior Kaila'Shea Menendezhas scored in double figures in five of the first six games of the season ... She failed to score in double figures against Campbell, just missing double figure scoring with nine points.
ABRAHAM ALREADY OVER SCORING MARK: Sophomore guard Alex Abrahamhas already bested her scoring total from last season, having posted 46 points in five games, as opposed to 41 points in 2010-11 ... Abraham has also scored in double figures twice this season.
LOSING STREAK HALTED:Western Carolina's 61-58 win over Tennessee Tech halted a two-game losing streak ... The Catamounts fell on the road to Campbell and lost at home, on November 22, to Coastal Carolina ... WCU is now 1-2 after a loss.
WHEN SCORING OVER 60 POINTS:Western Carolina is 4-0 this season when scoring 60 or more points.
MEETING GEORGIA STATE: Western Carolina and Georgia State meet for 12th time in the two school's history ... The Catamounts won the meeting last season, in Atlanta, 51-37 ... It was one of just four away games the Catamounts won in 2010-11 ... Western Carolina has a record of 3-1 against Georgia State in Cullowhee ... GSU did win the last meeting, in Cullowhee, 76-65 on January 11, 2011.
