STUDENT-ATHLETE ROUNDTABLE PODCAST INTERVIEW WITH TENNESSEE'S PAT SUMMITT
CULLOWHEE, N.C. - Western Carolina women's basketball (0-1) will host two rounds of the Preseason WNIT Consolation bracket Friday and Saturday. The Lady Catamounts will face Lafayette at 7:30 p.m. Friday and will play either Liberty or UC Riverside Saturday at 7 p.m. Also, don't forget to check out Heather Swayne and Jessica Jackson's exclusive interview with Tennessee head coach Pat Summitt on the Student-Athlete Roundtable Podcast.
UC Riverside and Liberty open the tournament Friday at 5 p.m. The Lady Catamount's first round opponent Lafayette lost 85-47 at Middle Tennessee. Liberty was nipped 59-57 by VCU and UC Riverside lost to Oklahoma 88-57.
Western Carolina has met Lafayette once before with the Leopards defeating the Lady Catamounts 67-68 in a neutral setting in 1998. Liberty, a possible second-round opponent for Western Carolina, and the Lady Catamounts have met 10 times with WCU holding a 7-3 advantage. WCU and UC Riverside have never met.
Tickets, which will be honored for both games of the daily session, are $10 for adults reserved and $6 for general admission, with all youth and student (with valid University ID) tickets priced at $6. Fans can purchase these in advance, or at the above entrances on the day of the game.
Since this weekend's women's basketball event is part of the Preseason WNIT, all patrons - including current Catamount season ticket holders and WCU students - will need to purchase a ticket in order gain admission.
There is no rest for Western Carolina, as after hosting the four-game and two-day WNIT event, the Lady Catamounts will travel to Knoxville, Tennessee to take on Tennessee at 7 p.m. Tuesday in Thompson Boling Arena. Fans can listen to a recent interview with Pat Summitt at the Catamount Student-Athlete Roundtable podcast hosted by Swayne and Jackson.
