CULLOWHEE, N.C. - Western Carolina women's basketball hosts its home-opener Friday against Southern Conference foe Wofford. Tip-off is set for 7 p.m. in the Ramsey Center.

The Catamounts are coming off a road swing against Richmond and East Carolina to open the season. Western Carolina returns home 0-2, it is the first time since 2005 WCU has opened the season 0-2.

Wofford picked up a victory Wednesday against Norfolk State defeating the team 77-75. The 1-2 Terriers are led by Maddie Helms and Mary Katherine Varno each averaging 11.0 points per game.

The Catamounts are paced by junior guard Kendra Carroll who is averaging 13.0 points per game in the club's two contests to start the season. Carroll had been the leading scorer in the first two games scoring 10 points against Richmond and 16 versus East Carolina.

Western Carolina is 25-7 all-time against Wofford and has won the last seven meetings. The last Terrier victory was January 28, 2006 in Cullowhee with the Terriers squeaking by 69-64.

Fans who attend the game can help support area food banks including: Community Table, Haywood Christian Ministry and Manna Food Bank. For every can or box food brought to the game a $1 will be taken off the ticket price, if fans bring seven food items they can receive free admission.
