SPARTANBURG, S.C. - Western Carolina women's basketball freshman forward Sherae Bonner was named the CRONS Freshman of the Week as announced by the Southern Conference office Tuesday.
Bonner, from Whitesburg, Ga., got her collegiate career off to a terrific start, averaging 16.5 points and 19.5 rebounds per game with two double-doubles in the Catamounts' first two games of the season. The rookie opened the season with 16 points and 13 rebounds against NC Central on Friday.
She then tied the Western Carolina school record for rebounds in a game with 26 on Monday against Livingstone, in addition to scoring 17 points. Bonner tied a 37 year old record set by Brenda Johnson in 1977.
Bonner was 11-for-22 from the field for a .500 shooting percentage over the two games.
Western Carolina returns to action at 3:30 p.m. Saturday hosting Presbyterian.
