Kristen Feemster's Blog on Eve of Playing North Carolina

Nov. 13, 2008

The season is here and we are extremely excited!!! Everyone on campus has been asking are we excited to play North Carolina? The answer is yes but we're even more excited about getting this season started. We've been working hard everyday and now it's time to step on the court.

I know there's no one emotion to describe the first game of the season but we can't deny how grateful we all are to put on a Western Carolina jersey once more. I know there is plenty of alums that would give anything to do it all over again and there's a lot more people who would love to be in our shoes.

When it comes time to play we must give it our all. We must play our hardest and play on even if we mess up not because we're playing Carolina but because that's the kind of team we want to be every game. This year I have constantly asked myself "If everybody worked as hard as I am right now, would we win?" I do this not only to check myself and my motivation but to remind myself why I'm here on this team. Kellie [Harper] recruited each of us to play hard and give it our all every game.

Being cool, calm and collected is also essential. With all of the hype around playing UNC and the atmosphere we'll be in, it's important that we stay poised. We have to focus on what we need to do in the game and block out anything that could potentially distract us from our goal. Playing our type of game is the only option. If we stick to our plan and execute we will be successful.

Finally, rebounding will play a huge role in our game tomorrow. Every single defensive play must end with a box out and getting second chance shots is key to our offense. We've worked hard in the weight room and practice to be able to compete on the boards. We must be put our hard work to use for the entire game.

We're looking forward to having a pretty big crowd at the game and it's good to know they'll be cheering loud for us. Having fans to support us makes a big difference and we thank all of you. We will make you proud!
