EXHIBITION WITH MARS HILL: Western Carolina dropped its exhibition game to Mars Hill, 56-51 ... Freshman guard Ali Lanehad a rousing debut on the Ramsey Center court leading the Catamounts with 14 points and tied for most rebounds with eight ... Lane was 6-of-8 from the field, draining one three pointer, and 4-of-4 from the free throw line.
LET THE MENENDEZ COUNTDOWN BEGIN: Senior Kaila'Shea Menendezwill be chasing the 1,000 point plateau in her final Catamount season ... She currently has scored 786 points in her three year career and needs 124 points to hit 1,000 ... After scoring a career season best 345 points last season, including a season-best 21 three-pointers, the count is on.
FOUR GAMES IN NINE DAYS:Western Carolina is tipping off the 2011-12 season in a flurry ... The Catamounts will play four games in nine days, with two on the road and two in the friendly confines of the Ramsey Center.
FACING NORTH CAROLINA CENTRAL:This is just the second meeting between Western Carolina women's basketball and North Carolina Central ... The Catamounts defeated NCCU 89-56 in the lone meeting on November 30, 1979.

STARTING LINE-UP VS MARS HILL: The Catamount starting line-up, in the exhibition against Mars Hill, reflected the dichotomy of the team, a mixture of veterans and a newcomer ... WCU started seniors Caitlin Hollifield (F) and Kaila'Shea Menendez (G), junior forward Janae' McKinney, sophomore guard Rena Wakama and freshman guard Ali Lane ... With Lane's solid play against Mars Hill, it looks like the freshman might be getting a starting nod against North Carolina Central.
